Omar Khairat

Omar Khairat ( عمر خيرت, Omar Khayrat, * 1949 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian composer.

Khairat visited in 1959 the Conservatory of Cairo, where he studied piano and music theory founded by his uncle Abu -Bakr Khairat. This was followed by a correspondence course at Trinity College of Music in London. At the same time, Khairat for pop and jazz music began to take an interest and was the drummer for Wagdi Francis ' band Les Petits Chats ( with organist Ezzat Abou Aouf and guitarist Omar Khorshid ).

Since the late 1970s Khairat became known as a film music composer. He composed music for numerous theatrical and television films and is regarded as the most famous film composer of Egypt. His most important symphonic work is the Egyptian Rhapsody; still he composed, among others two ballets and two operettas.
