Ömer Naci Soykan

Ömer Naci Soykan ( born 1945 in Rize ) is a Turkish philosopher and author.

Life

Soykan studied philosophy, sociology, and classical philology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Istanbul. Parallel to his studies in Turkey, he attended the University of Hamburg in philosophical courses as a guest student.

He earned his doctorate at the University of Istanbul in 1982 with a dissertation on " ways of being and art Schelling ." In the same year he became a research associate at the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in Istanbul. In 1988 he became a lecturer in 1996 and professor in 2006, he was named " the constituent chairman " of the philosophical department of the same university, where he worked until today.

He has published 17 books, including " Philosophy and Language", " Art as a unity of theory and practice ", " Philosophical perspective from Turkey " ( 3 volumes), "Investigations " (2 volumes). He has published in Turkish, German and English contributions to epistemology, philosophy of language and aesthetics in international research journals, a total of about 200 titles of articles. He lectured in Germany, Austria, Hungary and the United States. From 1 January to 30 June 2001, he remained at the invitation of the New York University (NYU ) as a "Visiting Scholar " in the United States. He is a member of the Philosophical Institute of Turkey and the Turkish Society for Philosophy, the Austrian Ludwig Wittgenstein Society and the International Society Schelling.
