Ondokuzmayıs ( Turkish for nine tenth of May) (old name Engiz and Ballıca ) is a city and the capital of the Turkish province of Samsun. Ondokuzmayis located 33 km west of the provincial capital of Samsun. The name reminds Coming to 19 May 1919 on which day Ataturk, Istanbul, in neighboring Samsun went ashore. The date is considered the starting point of the Turkish War of Independence; May 19 is National Day in Turkey.
