Onno Hoes
Onno Hoes ( born June 5, 1961 in Leiden) is a Dutch politician. He is a member of the VVD, People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. Since 1 November 2010, he is the current mayor of Maastricht. Previously, he was head of department for environmental issues in the management of the Dutch province of North Brabant.
Curriculum vitae
Onno Hoes was born in 1961 in Leiden and but grew up in the southern province of North Brabant. Hoes ' mother was eight years a member of the municipal council of the provincial capital of ' s- Hertogenbosch, his father was also active VVD member and his grandfather was a municipal councilor and deputy mayor in Sint- Michielsgestel.
Since the early seventies, Hoes was committed to the VVD, first in the youth organization ( Jongeren Organisatie Vrijheid en Démocratie, JOVD ). From 1986 to 1992 he was chairman of the VVD in 's- Hertogenbosch and was subsequently a member of the Provincial Assembly ( Provinciale Staten ) of North Brabant. From 2001 to 2010 he was a member of the provincial government Gedeputeerde Staten. He was initially responsible for the area of economic development and international relations, and later he took over the environment portfolio.
On 5 December 2007 Hoes announced that he would run as a successor for the retiring 1 May 2008 VVD chairman Jan van Zanen .. A vote among party members revealed on 31 March 2008 that not Hoes, but Ivo Opstelten was elected with two -thirds of the 15,730 votes for party chairman. Hoes came to just under 5,000 votes.
On 16 September 2010 the municipal council of Maastricht Hoes suggested as the new mayor of Maastricht. On October 1, he was appointed by the Dutch Council of Ministers with effect from November 1 to the new mayor. As Maastricht mayor, he distinguished himself as a fan of the local football club MVV Maastricht.
Since 11 March 2010 is Hoes Centrum Informatie en Documentatie Chairman of over Israël ( CIDI ), a company founded by the Jewish community in 1974 Dutch foundation. The independent organization has set itself the goal to strive for the peace and security of the Jewish people all over the world. She feels the State of Israel connected.
Private
Hoes is since June 29, 2001 married to the Dutch master of ceremonies and theater producer Albert Verlinde and lives in Maastricht. Onno is the brother of Isa Hoes. Hoes father was Catholic while his mother was Jewish; Hoes has identified itself by its own account before the chairmanship of the CIDI already privately with Judaism.
