Onsala

Onsala is a locality ( tätort ), which is located in the northernmost part of the Swedish province of Halland County and the historical province of Halland. It forms, with Gottskär own administrative unit.

The village in the municipality of Kungsbacka, located approximately ten kilometers from the city of Kungsbacka and 45 km from Gothenburg, on the peninsula Onsala, Sweden's largest peninsula.

Onsala, together with Gottskär a popular holiday destination and now has its own infirmary, a post office and other modern infrastructure building. In Onsala is also the " OSO " ( Onsala Space Observatory ), which conducts research in the field of astronomy and radiology for the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg.

History

In the 19th century Onsala was very popular for their summer homes. 1966 had only 1,839 inhabitants Onsala, but in the further course of the century the population grew to around 12,000 inhabitants. Jointly responsible for this increase was the expansion of the highway from Gothenburg to Onsala.
