Open Collaboration Services

The Open Collaboration Services ( OCS ) is an open, vendor-independent REST-based API for the integration of online communities and internet-based services in desktop and mobile applications. It allows you to exchange the relevant data of a social network between the website and the client programs. As a client desktop applications or widgets are available that run locally on the user's computer or mobile phone.

The API was designed by openDesktop.org as part of the Social Desktop as a backend. In addition, the API has been adopted by independent freedesktop.org project as the default, which is why every website that integrates the OCS interface, can be used as a provider of social desktop.
