OpenSync (software)

OpenSync is a computer program to synchronize addresses, calendar and other data between different devices such as computers, PDAs or mobile phones.

It is native to Linux, but unofficially already for Mac OS X and Windows. However, the current versions of the latter two have yet to be compiled by the user.

The program is modular and plug-in -based. The synchronization between two entities A and B runs from this over the plugins responsible for A and B, while A and B can be both apparatus and programs. Once changes a record of a party, the change is replicated to the other party. It is also possible to synchronize only one direction or even automatically, for example, if a device is within range. The plug-in concept allows for easy adjustment of the program to new devices or programs, because it only needs to be created a new plugin, while the synchronization logic remains the same.

Since 22 April 2006, the project has become the official successor of Multisync.
