Operation: Mindcrime (English: Operation: thought crimes ) is the third album by American progressive metal band Queensrÿche and was published on 26 May 1988.

Formation

The idea for this concept album was singer Geoff Tate, one night during a visit to a church. For the album for the first time the band worked with producer Peter Collins. The writing of the album, according to Tate lasted four months, during which the band has been working 18 hours a day on it. Then it took 14 months to get the whole album was recorded. The mix of the album was completed at noon on 25 February 1988, at Wisseloord studios in Hilversum (Netherlands).

Action

It is a concept album that tells the story of a man who, frustrated joins on American society, an underground organization to pursue attacks against corrupt politicians. Spoken dialogues between the songs are driving the story and make connections between each song here. The album is considered the first and still popular progressive metal album. In January 1989, the Kerrang chose! Magazine the album at number 34 of the 100 best heavy metal albums of all time.

Publications

The album was first released on 3 May 1988 in the United States. On May 26, 1988, the album also appeared in the Euro. On 24 July 2003 was released Operation: Mindcrime first time in a digitally revised version. As part of Queensrÿche - Remastered - series, the album was re-released with 24-bit digital - revision and two previously unreleased live recordings as bonus tracks. On 29 June 2006, the album would eventually be released again in a Deluxe Edition, the first CD is identical to the re-release from 2003. This version is offered in a noble digipack including booklet and on a second CD contains a previously released concert recording, which was recorded on 15 November 1990 at London's Hammersmith and the entire album contains live. In addition, also contain a DVD that the hitherto published only on VHS video: Mindcrime and includes a making-of and a TV spot. Also in 2006, the band released "Operation: Mindcrime II" - her ninth studio album - a continuation of their successful album, which, however, the commercial and artistic expectations could not fulfill.
