Ora Namir

Ora Namir (Hebrew אורה נמיר; born September 1, 1930 in Hadera ) is a former Israeli politician and diplomat.

Life

She served during the Arab-Israeli war in 1948 as an officer in the IDF. After that, she studied classical and English literature at Hunter College in New York City. She was married to Mordechai Namir, who was also a minister.

From 1974 to 1996 she was a Knesset member. In 1992 she became Minister of Environmental Protection. 1992-1996 she was Minister of Welfare and Social Services. It was then Israeli ambassador for China and Mongolia.
