Oracle Dataguard

Oracle Data Guard is an extension of database management system from Oracle that allows the operation of a standby database. Using Data Guard, it is possible to send all the data changes to a physically separate database. This can then be planned ( switchover ) or upon failure of the primary database ( failover ) take over the operation.

It is possible to combine both physical and logical standby databases with the primary database. This can make the standby databases in real-time or a time lag (for example, to the exclusion of human errors).

The primary database can also be relieved by allowing queries run on the standby database, this option is, however, a fee ( " Active Data Guard ").

The control is effected by means of a graphical user interface or through a command-line oriented tool (Data Guard Control).
