Orange-bellied Fruit Dove

The orange-bellied Fruit Dove ( Ptilinopus iozonus ) is a species of pigeons birds. It comes in several subspecies only in some Southeast Asian islands.

Appearance

The orange-bellied fruit dove reaches a body length of 21 centimeters. In height and body type it resembles the Purple Cap fruit dove. It is a short-tailed species whose plumage is predominantly green vigorously. On the shoulders, it has depending on the subspecies depending on a slate-gray or deep red shoulder spot. The feathers of the wings are lined with yellow. Characteristic of the type is the very large orange patch on the belly. The under tail-coverts are yellowish white.

Distribution and behavior

The orange-bellied Fruit Dove is an endemic pigeon of New Guinea and the adjacent islands. It occurs among other Salawari, Waigeo, Aru, Japen, Manam, Tarawi, Karkar and Kalriru. In the lowlands of New Guinea, it is a common species orange-bellied Fruit Dove are forest dwellers who prefer to stay at the forest edges. They prefer primary forests and old secondary forests.
