Oranit

Oranit is a Jewish settlement in the West Bank with 5,458 inhabitants ( 2004). The settlement was founded in 1984 and is located in the region of Samaria, in the district of Tulkarem.

Geographical Location

The community Oranit located on the western slopes of Semiria Mountains. It is located north of the town of Rosh haAjin and south of the cities and Kfar Saba Hod haScharon. Oranit is located right on the Green Line in the borders of 1967 and will be located within the Israeli separation barrier. The name of the village can be traced back to the pine forests west of the settlement.

History

Oranit was founded in 1983 by a private company " Delta Company ". 1985 attracted the first settlers in the town. The settlement received in 1990 the official church status and has since been an independent council.

According to a report by the Israeli organization Shalom Achschaw are 53,87 % of the land on which the settlement was built on Palestinian private property; even after Israeli legal opinion should not have been built on this land.

On 19 September 2001 Oranit was hit by a bomb attack. A bomb hit a vehicle of security forces in Oranit and wounded two people.
