Orava Magura

The Orava Magura ( German rarely Arwaer Magura ) is a mountain range in the north of Slovakia in the landscape Orava ( German Arwa ). It is one of the central Beskydy, even a part of the outer West Carpathians. Adjacent geomorphological units are the mountains and the valley Oravské Beskydy Orava kotlina in the north, the mountains Skorušinské Hills in the east, Chočské Hills in the south and the Mala Fatra in the West. The highest elevations are the Minčol ( 1394 m nm), the Parać ( 1325 m nm ) and the Budín ( 1222 m nm)

The mountain is divided into three smaller geomorphological bases:

  • Budín
  • Kubínska hoľa
  • Parać

Geologically it is a predominantly sandstone mountains. The area of ​​the Orava Magura is covered by dense forests, where spruce, beech, hornbeam, birch trees grow further. Well-known tourist places are Dolny Kubin, Tvrdošín and Zázrivá. The mountain is part of the catchment area of Orava, a right tributary of the Waag.

A large part of the mountain is part of the conservation area Horna Orava.
