Orcier

Orcier is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Orcier is located on 653 m above sea level. M., 7 km south of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Chablais, on a plateau south of Lake Geneva, at the northern foot of the Savoy Alps.

The area of ​​9:39 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Chablais with the northern Savoyard Alps. The northwestern part of the municipality area is located on the plateau of Orcier (620 m above sea level. M. ), which is drained by the Ruisseau des Blaves and its headwaters north to Lake Geneva. To the south and southeast of the communal land extends over a steep slope up to the area of the Col du Feu on the densely wooded ridge of Mont d' Hermone on which with 1412 meters above sea level. History

The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Orsinus. Orcier is first mentioned in the 15th century.

Attractions

The village church of Saint-Jacques comes in its present form from the 19th century, but various elements of the earlier buildings dating from the 15th to 17th centuries have been integrated into the construction. On the crest of Mont d' Hermone ( 1328 m above sea level. M. ) is the pilgrimage chapel of Notre -Dame- d'Hermone.

Population

With 822 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Orcier one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous growth of the population was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure
