Orczy

The Orczy are a Hungarian noble family. Her best-known from today's perspective is representative of the Baroness Emma Orczy, the daughter of Baron Felix Orczy.

Castle

The head of the family located in the small Hungarian town Gyöngyös.

The castle was built in the early 18th century on the orders of István Orczys in the style of the Baroque. Lőrincz Orczy, István's grandson, it was 1826 Refurbish classicist, where it received its present form.

On April 1, 1848, here the Honvéd met under the leadership Artúr Gorgey, who presented his plans for the campaign against the Habsburgs and had to vote on it.

In the castle park, which is as old as the building itself, are about 450 trees. Among them are some several hundred years old yew trees. Famous is a hazel tree with a trunk circumference of 4.30 meters, which is a record for Hungary.
