Order of Augustinian Recollects

The Augustinian Recollects (lat. Ordo Augustinianorum Recollectorum, religious symbol OAR ) are a Roman Catholic religious order, which is subject to the jurisdiction of an institute of consecrated life based in Rome.

History

Belonging to the mendicant orders Augustinian Recollects were founded in 1588 as a branch of the Augustinian Discalceaten in Spain; the General Chapter was in Toledo. The rule of St. Augustine's committed fellowship in 1912, approved by the Holy See as an independent Order and one of the four central Augustinian Order. The seat of the Superior General is located in Rome. The term Recollects (from the Latin recollecti " the congregation " ) refers to religious communities with strict observance, so orders, follow the strict rules.

Organization

The main facilities of the Order belongs to the office of the Superior General, with the Prior General, a High Council and the Curia and an educational institution. The General House is located since 1959 in Rome; it is home to the archive of all historical documents, the management and the personnel department. The international colleague St. Ildefonso and St. Thomas of Villanova was founded in 1616 in the old Roman city, while offering a living area for the students. The students and students are here on the further course of study at universities, three institutes - prepared - the Historical Institute, the Institute for Augustinologie and the spiritual institution. To the Order of Augustinian Recollects are also several communities of Augustinian ( Vita contemplativa ) and sisters ( vita activa ).

Provinces

The Order is divided into eight provinces, with separate areas that are not mapped geographically, the Provinces are named after saints of the Augustinian order:

  • The St. Nicholas of Tolentino province was established in 1622 and has religious houses in Spain, Taiwan, England, Mexico, Costa Rica, United States and Brazil.
  • The Province of Our Lady of Candelaria has operations in Colombia and Chile, it was created in 1663.
  • The Province of St. Thomas of Villanova was built in 1909 and comprises houses in Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela.
  • The St. Augustine Province was founded in 1943 with religious houses in the United States and Mexico.
  • The St. Joseph province has houses and facilities in Spain, Venezuela and Peru, it was also established in 1948.
  • The St. Rita province was founded in 1960 in Brazil.
  • The Province of Our Lady of Consolation was established in 1961 and comprises houses in Spain, Panama, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
  • The St. Ezekiel Moreno Province is the youngest province with houses in the Philippines, was established in 1998.

Other fields of

For the religious community has 17 bishops who exercise their activities mainly in mission territories. The focus of missionary work is in Brazil, China, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru and Sierra Leone ( West Africa ). In Spain, the Order supports the international charity organization " Haren Alde " ( Catalan: For better ), based in Madrid. This is an organization which carries out social and educational programs in developing countries.
