Order of Merit for Science and Art

The Order of Merit for Science and Art was founded on July 30, 1873 Duke Friedrich I of Anhalt and in recognition and reward excellent and special achievements in the field of science and art at home and foreigners.

Order of classes

First donated in only one class, the Order in 1912 was expanded to two classes.

  • Second Class
  • III. class

Order decoration

The religious character of the first model ( 1873-1905 ) is a highly oval gilt bronze medal, which is surrounded by 24 peaks rays and is supported by a crown. In the middle of the letter F (Friedrich) in Gothic script and including the semicircular inscription DUKE OF SUSTAINED. On the back of the four-line inscription FOR SCIENCE AND ART is to be read, which is surrounded by an open top and bottom tied laurel wreath.

The second model ( 1905-1918 ) is gilded bronze or silver (third class) and enclosed instead of rays by a dense laurel wreath. At the back the Anhalt Coat of arms with the inscription FOR SCIENCE AND ART.

Carrying method

Originally worn on the ribbon on the left chest, the first class was created after the expansion in 1905 of men than of women's orders and neck with a bow on the left shoulder. The II and III. Class decorated the ribbon on the left chest.

Others

The Insignia was mandatorily redeemable upon the death of the owner.
