Order of Saint Michael of the Wing
The Order of Saint Michael of the Wing ( Ordem de São Miguel da Ala) is one of the three dynastic Order of the House of Braganza.
History
Led to the creation of the Order of Saint Michael of the Wing were the victories of King Alfonso I in 1147 at Ourique and Santarém concerning the king of León and the Moors. According to legend, the archangel Michael had intervened in the fighting, as his winged arm appeared with the sword in the sky.
The Order was instituted by Pope Alexander III. approved and placed under the Cistercian abbot of Alcobaça. The first knights who were awarded the Order was a group of knights Jacob (Santiago Knight ), which also formed the bodyguard of the king. The Order remained until today as dynastic honor Decoration exist.

Medals and titles from the wing of St. Michael of the house of Braganza are awarded only through this brotherhood.

During the proceedings, therefore, the Order on the website of the House of Braganza remains unmentioned. The People's Monarchist Party (PMP ) recognizes the legitimacy of the current pretender to the throne not, but supports one of his cousins. The dispute among the monarchist parties of Portugal goes back to the 1830s (cf. Miguelistenkrieg ) and contributed in 1910 to the fact that the monarchy was replaced by a republic.
