Order of Skanderbeg

The Skanderbeg Order (sq. Urdhëri i Skënderbeut ) in 1925 donated by the Albanian President Ahmet Zogu King and later as a civil and military merit. After the occupation of the country In 1939, the Italian king Victor Emmanuel III. also the Albanian royal dignity, and gave the order to 1943 in a slightly different form.

Order decoration

The religious character has the shape of a double-headed eagle is made of gilded bronze and partially enamelled red. On the chest of the eagle, a circular medallion is on. It shows in the center on blue enamelled ground the golden shirt of the Albanian national hero Skanderbeg. Enclosed is the medallion of a green enamelled oak wreath.

The Officer's Cross has a different shape. It is a white five-pointed star enameled with small beads on the tips. Surface mounted a medallion that shows the coat of arms of Albania. Under the sidereal two crossed sabers are attached and the star is surrounded by a green enamelled oak wreath. Excessive religious character is the helmet of the national hero.

In 1940, the medallion of the Order Mark ( 2nd model ) has been changed. Instead of the oak wreath medallion was now enclosed with a ornamentation formed by golden cords. In the lower semicircle also two crossed fasces can be seen. Another feature is flipped to the left animal head on the shirt.

In the Officer's Cross of the beads were traded on the star points.

Carrying method

The Grand Cross was worn on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip and chest with a eight-pointed star, on which rests the medallion of religious character. Grand Officer and Commander decorated the award as a neck order, Grand Officers in addition with a reduced breast star. The Officer's Cross is a cross slot and knights wore the award on band on the left chest.

The ribbon is black with red side and edge strips.

With the takeover by the Communists an award of the same name was created in 1945 and awarded until 1990.
