Order of the African Star

The African star north in 1888 donated by King Leopold II of Belgium as a general Order of Merit for the Congo State. In 1908 he went through the ranks of the Belgian Order and will not be awarded since 1960.

Order decoration

The religious character is a five-pointed white enamel star blaugeränderter of gold, lying on a green enameled wreath and palm leaf is supported by a crown. In a medallion star and all round the inscription LABOUR ET PROGRES ( work and progress ). The rear of the two entwined letters LS ( Leopold Souverain ).

Carrying method

The Grand Cross is worn with a sash from the left shoulder to the right hip and a zehnstrahligen breast star with alternating brilliant rays in silver and smooth rays in gold. In case of major officers of the breast star is only fünfstrahlig. Commanders bear the label around the neck, officers and knights on the tape on the left chest. Officers in a rosette is also attached on the tape. The religious character of the knight is made ​​of silver.

On special occasions, the Grand Cross also be worn on a golden Collar of. This consists of alternating three members and shows a royal crown, a L with a winding S and a medallion with a golden star on a black background.

The ribbon is blue with yellow markings.
