Order of the Cross of Takovo

The Takovo Medal ( Serbian Cyrillic Орден Таковског крста, religious Takovskog Krsta " Order of Takovoer Cross", the orders also Takova ) was an Order of Merit of the Principality and later Kingdom of Serbia.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Serbia in 1865 gave Prince Mihailo Obrenović, the surviving participants of the liberation struggle a golden commemorative cross. It had the shape of Takovo Order, even if he had not been so designated.

At the beginning of the Serbian - Ottoman War in 1876 the Prince Milan IV created for " merits before the enemy" an award. He maintained the cross mentioned above and donated on July 12, 1878 under the name Takovo Medal two classes. These consisted of a gold and a silver cross. On February 15, 1878 there was a reorganization of the Order's Statutes.

The Order is named after the place Takovo, in the 1815, the Second Serbian uprising against the Ottoman rule took its output.

Classes

The king was Grand Master of the Order and the Queen and the Crown Prince wore the Grand Cross.

After the Order Act of 1883, the Takovo Medal was awarded only for military merit.

When the Obrenović dynasty went under in 1903, the Takovo Medal by the successor of Peter I of the House of Karadjordjević was declared extinct. The newly founded Karageorgevitch Medal took over its function.

Order Decoration

The religious character consists of an eight-pointed, white enamel and gold- bordered cross of St. John with small golden balls on the eight peaks and a golden cross of St. Andrew the cross bars are displayed in the four corners of the cross.

There is a golden crown to the ring for the belt is fastened above the decoration. The round, two golden laurel branches surrounded central shield shows on red- enameled basically golden, intricate monogram of King MO (Milan Obrenovic ). In the crown to the same is a blue- enamelled hoop in the form of bands, including in Serbian initials, the inscription of the Order's motto for faith, Prince and Fatherland.

The back of the cross of the Order is smooth and quite golden. In the middle plate is the sublime embossed in gold Serbian coat of arms.

Ribbon of the Order

The ribbon is red with a white and blue border stripes on each side.
