Order of the Dannebrog

The Dannebrogorden (formerly also Danebrogorden ) is a Danish Order of Merit and is awarded to loyal servants of the Danish state for civil and military services, for outstanding contributions in the arts, the sciences or business life or for other services to Danish interests.

In older times knight of the Dannebrogordens were referred to as white - knight or a white knight.

History

The Dannebrog is the saga have been donated by King Valdemar II in 1219 after already. It is said that the Foundation was made in connection with the battles against the pagan Estonians. The name comes from the name of the flag of Denmark Dannebrog, which should be developed also in this fight.

King Christian V. renewed the Order, on the occasion of the birth of his son, the future King Frederick IV, 1671, and gave him in 1693 a statute. The Order originally consisted of 50 nobles and the Danish king as a religious Lord. King Frederick VI. reformed the Order in 1808 and initially divided it into five classes. He could be purchased by any citizen regardless of his status. King Christian VIII in 1842 changed the classification into four classes.

Order of classes

Since 1952, the Order has six classes, which are divided as follows:

Order decoration

The religious character consists of a long, white enamel cross, which is surrounded by a wide red, gold fringed edge. In the middle of the above is crowned C ( Christian V ) and on the cross arms spread the motto Gud og Kongen ( God and King ). Dannebrog Men

Following the Dannebrogorden Friedrich VI donated. by decree of June 28, 1808, the Dannebrog cross in silver.
