Order of Ushakov

The Uschakoworden (Russian Орден Ушакова / Order of Ushakov ) was the highest order of the naval fleet of the USSR. He thus ranks above the Nachimowordens. The Order was named after Ushakov, a Russian admiral.

The two-class medal was instituted on March 3, 1944 by the government under Joseph Stalin and awarded to officers and admirals. The first class was awarded, for example, the destruction of enemy forces or coastal fleet bases. For the award of the Order of the second class you had to demonstrate against a numerically superior enemy, for example, the destruction of enemy forces considerable.

Design of the Order

Order star

The order consisted of a domed and multiple-broken star, an anchor and a medallion. Zum Anker was a right obend incipient chain which surrounds the medallion. The medallion had a diameter of 23 mm. It showed the bust Ushakov in a blue enamelled field and the name АДМИРАЛ УШАКОВ ( German: Admiral Ushakov ). To medallion was a rope -like edge. The Order Star of the first class showed between armature and medallion on the left side of a bay and on the right side of an oak branch. At the intersection of the branches, or on the anchor tip was located the Soviet coat of arms, consisting of a hammer and sickle. The Order was the first class of platinum (star ) and gold ( medallion ), in the second grade of gold and silver.

Ordensspange

The basic colors of medal bar ( band buckle) were white and light blue. The first class had a 5 mm wide middle stripe and two edge strips of 1.5 mm width. The second class had two 5 mm wide side stripes, which were each 1.5 mm away from the edge.

Award

The award of the Uschakoworden took place extremely rare in contrast to Suworoworden. The Order first class was about 50 times awarded the Order Second Class about 200 times. With the Order of second class also 12 fleets were honored. The first award of the Uschakowordens first class was held on 16 May 1944.
