Ordovices

The Ordovicer (Latin Ordovices ) were one of the Celtic tribes living in the British Isles before the Roman invasion. Their territory was on the north of modern Wales; southern neighbors were the Silures. They were farmers and hunters, but had a strong military tradition and lived mostly in fortified settlements. They were among the few tribes who had resisted the Roman invasion. When Boudicca revolt the Ordovicer fought 60/61 led by Caratacus (or Caradoc ) against the Romans and their allies.

Tacitus reports that the Ordovicer were probably almost completely destroyed by the Roman governor Gnaeus Julius Agricola in the second half of the year 77, as they rebelled against the Roman occupation and had massacred almost entirely shortly before Agricola's arrival an advanced into their territory Ala. Claudius Ptolemy is that the place Bravonium originally was under the rule of Ordovicer.

The tribe's name is still in the place name Dinorwig ( " Fort of Ordovices " ) in North Wales before. 1879 Name Middle Ordovician was introduced for a geological period between the Cambrian and the Silurian.
