The Church of the Holy Trinity at the Borisov Ponds (Russian Храм Живоначальной Троицы на Борисовских прудах ) is a Russian Orthodox Church in the Russian capital Moscow. The church was built from 2001 to 2004 in the Moscow district Orechowo - Borissowo North. She is one of the largest new churches in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

History

The decision to build a church of the Holy Trinity in Moscow was made in 1988. The church, however, should be a little further built west of the present site. Patriarch Pimen I put then on June 13, 1988 the foundation stone for the construction of the church. The construction, however, had to be stopped after a short time, lack of money as the Christ the Savior Cathedral was at this time in the Moscow Kremlin in the reconstruction.

In September 2001, the construction of the church of the Holy Trinity could be continued at the Borisov Ponds. on September 1, held Patriarch Alexy II at the building site in Orechowo - Borissowo North District is a public prayer.

The consecration of the church was held by Patriarch Alexy II on 19 May 2004. Products shipped included a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church headed by Metropolitan Laurus and the head from contractor Baltic Construction Company.

Description

The church building was built in the Neo-Byzantine style. There is a central building on the plan of a Greek cross with a high dome and four apses. The height to the cross on the dome is 70 meters. In the church find about 4000 people. In the basement there is a baptismal font for the baptism of adults.

With the complex also includes a chapel, dedicated to the Russian prince Alexander Nevsky Yaroslavich, a Sunday school and a bell tower.
