Orfű

Orfű is a municipality in southern Hungary and is situated in the Baranya county. It belongs to the small area of Pécs.

History

The place was first mentioned in 1332 in the form of Orfew. During the liberation war, the village lost its inhabitants and was settled again until the early 19th century by German and Hungarian families. In the 1970s, three artificial lakes were created in the area.

The village is divided into 5 districts ( Orfű, Mecsekrákos, Banos, Mecsekszakál, Tekeres ).

Location

The community Orfű located 15 km north of the city of Pécs in a beautiful valley of the Mecsek Mountains. About 5 km from Orfű located in Abaliget a limestone cave.

Leisure and Tourism

The territory of Orfű located on three man-made lakes ( Orfűi -tó or Kis- tó, Pécsi -tó and Herman Ottó -tó ). While the first two lakes for swimming, sailing are capable of Herman Ottó -tó is a nature reserve where only fishing is allowed. On Pécsi -to, there is a sailing club, and the end of August 2010, the Aqua Park Orfü was opened. In the village there is also a fishing village ( Horgászfalu ). There are also numerous Holiday Homes. From a situated on a hilltop observation tower ( kilato ) has a view of the entire valley with the lakes.

Traffic

The leisure area around Orfű can be reached from the city of Pécs from the winding roads through the western Mecsek Mountains. A rail connection does not exist. However, there are regular buses. Since December 2010 there is a bike path connecting Pécs after Orfü.

Attractions

In the village you can visit a mill museum ( Orfűi Malommúzeum ).
