Organic anion-transporting polypeptide

Organo anion transporter ( OATP abbreviation of Engl. Organic Anion Transporting Polypeptides ) are proteins in the plasma membrane of cells including the liver, kidneys and the blood -brain barrier, inject the foreign substances from the blood into the cell. This membrane transporters are evolutionarily closely related and are mainly used in terrestrial vertebrates and fish before, three of which are also found in insects. Its function is to remove bile salts, steroid hormones, drugs and other foreign substances from the blood.

Man eleven of these transporters are known. The names of the genes that code for them to begin with SLCO and protein names mostly with the OATP ( UniProt ) or Oat ( TCDB ). After their location in the body are grouped around

  • Liver: LST -1 ( SLCO1B1 ), LST -2 ( SLCO1B3 )
  • Kidney: OATP -H ( SLCO4C1 )
  • Brain: OATP -A ( SLCO1A2 ), OATP -F ( and in Leydig cells, SLCO1C1 )
  • Testis: OATP -I ( SLCO6A1 )
  • Everywhere: PGT ( SLCO2A1 ), OATP -B ( SLCO2B1 ), OATP -D ( SLCO3A1 ), OATP -E ( SLCO4A1 )
  • Unknown: OATP -J ( SLCO5A1 )
