Organomegaly

As organomegaly is defined as the abnormal, often morbid enlargement of one or more organs.

For certain organs which are abnormally enlarged, there are distinct names. For example, there is hepatomegaly, an enlarged heart cardiomegaly and an enlarged spleen splenomegaly with an enlarged liver. It is not an independent disease, but a secondary organ change, the cause of which is a different underlying diseases.

In POEMS syndrome ( polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy, skin changes ) have several organs on pathological enlargements.

The cause of the abnormal organ enlargements are common autoimmune diseases or metabolic disorders such as Gaucher's disease or Fabry disease.
