Orla Perć

Orla Perć ( German Eagle Path) is a mountain trail in the Tatra Mountains in Poland. He is the most difficult trail in Poland. Its length is 4.5 km and it usually takes six to eight hours for the whole route. So far, more than 100 people came to him killed. The most common reasons for this were slips and falls on the wet granite. Therefore, the commission is only possible in one direction for some time on some sections.

Location and Directions

The trail is located in the center of the High Tatras. From Zawrat saddle ( 2159 m npm ) beginning leads Orla Perć along the ridge on numerous summits - the highest point is the Kozi Wierch with 2291 m npm - And finally ends on Krzyżne saddle ( 2112 m npm ). The road is in places covered with chains, ladders and brackets. Several other paths cross the Orla Perć, these lead to Zakopane and two mountain huts in the adjacent valleys Dolina Dolina Gąsienicowa and Pieciu Stawów Polskich. There is avalanche and rockfall.

History

The idea to build a road here, had in 1901, the Polish poet Franciszek Henryk Nowicki. The road was built by the priest Walenty Gadowski 1903-1906, the approach routes have been erected some years later. After several serious accidents in 2006 has been proposed to block the way and convert it into a fixed rope. Finally, it was decided to leave the path as a historical path unchanged. Since July 2007, the observance of the Orla Perć on the section from Zawrat saddle for Kozi Wierch in only one direction is possible.
