History

The gas field was discovered in 1997 and production started in September 2007. While the project is Ormen Lange has been promoted in the project development phase of Norsk Hydro, Shell took over the operation on 1 December 2007.

Reserves

In an exploitation period of 30 to 40 years, the total capacity of 397 billion Sm ³ was ( standard cubic meter, ie under standard conditions at a temperature of 0 degrees Celsius and 1013.25 hPa) estimated. Once the flow rate is increased in the first two to three years, today 70 million Sm ³ per day are encouraged.

Technical Description

The gas field comes from no visible installations, such as delivery platforms. The complete infrastructure of Ormen Lange is anchored at a depth of 800 to 1100 meters (m) on the seabed. The gas and condensate is transported via two pipelines to Nyhamna on the island Gossa at Aukra, where it is processed. After processing, it is pumped through the Langeled pipeline over a distance of 1166 km to England.

The total cost of the project was estimated at 66 billion kroner ( approximately 8.5 billion euros ).
