Orotidine (O) is a rare nucleoside and derived structurally from the uridine. It consists of the β -D - ribofuranose (sugar) and orotic acid. It was first isolated from the fungus Neurospora 1951. It is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of uridine monophosphate (UMP).
