Orrin Hatch

Orrin Hatch ( * March 22, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is an American politician of the Republican Party, who represents the state of Utah since 1977 in the U.S. Senate.

Life

Orrin Hatch is the son of Helen comb and Jesse Hatch. As the first member of his family, studied, Hatch attended Brigham Young University from which he received the bachelor's degree in history. He then studied law at the Law School of the University of Pittsburgh, where he achieved his Juris Doctor in 1962. After finishing his studies, he spent 14 years as a lawyer, first in Pittsburgh and then in Utah. Hatch is married to Elaine Hansen; they have six children together. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints.

Hatch represents since January 1977 the state of Utah in Congress. In his very first candidacy for public mandate he defeated at the 1976 elections the Democratic incumbent for three election periods, Frank Moss. He criticized the long (18 -year ) term of Moss. In subsequent Senate elections Hatch were each re-elected as senator, in 1982 against the then mayor of Salt Lake City, Ted Wilson, and most recently in 2006, when his term lasted around 30 years. He is currently the longest serving senator in the history of Utah.

In 2000 he was one of the Republican presidential candidate, but he was defeated by then-governor of Texas, George W. Bush. Since 2010, he supported an initiative that service providers and search Internet filter to protect against copyright infringement should prescribe.
