Orthetrum nitidinerve

The Yellow Vein Blue Arrow ( Orthetrum nitidinerve ) is a dragonfly of the family sailing Dragonflies ( Libellulidae ).

Features

The Yellow Vein Blue Arrow has a wingspan of eight to nine centimeters. The wings have a yellow longitudinal vein, which extends from the wing base to the nodus and out of the numerous yellow cross veins. The yellow -gold Flügelmal ( pterostigma ) is four to five millimeters long, while at other Blue Arrow species significantly smaller (about 3 mm). The body of the male is blue.

Similar Species

This species is easily confused with other Orthetrum species, especially with the Southern Blue Arrow ( Orthetrum brunneum ) or the little blue arrow ( Orthetrum coerulescens ).

Way of life

Little is known about the behavior, it probably is, but as with the other Orthetrum species. The animals do not depart far from their waters away. The flight period extends from April to October.

Habitat

The Yellow Vein Blue Arrow is very common in North Africa, in Europe, the species is found only in the Iberian Peninsula, Sardinia, near Naples, and Sicily. He settled waters up to an altitude of 2000 meters.

Reproduction

The larvae develop on the basis of stationary and flowing water, preferably in more arid regions.
