Osamah Al-Shanqiti

Osamah Masaud Al- Shanqiti ( May 3, 1976 in Medina ) is a Saudi Arabian athlete who competes in the long jump, triple jump and shot put. He suffers from impaired vision and therefore starts in disabled sports in the classification group F12, the F for the English name field ( en.: field) stands.

Sports career

He made ​​his debut on the international stage at the World Athletics Championships of Disabled Persons in 2006 in the Dutch city of Assen, the same as if he won the title in the triple jump and also have secured a bronze medal in the long jump. Two years later, he represented his country at the Summer Paralympics in Beijing in 2008. There he triumphed with a new world record in the triple jump and thus won the first Olympic gold medal for Saudi Arabia at all (regular Olympic Games included in the calculation ).

The next edition of the Summer Paralympics in London in 2012, ran for him, however, less successful. In the shot put, he left with three invalid attempts, and in the triple jump, it was enough for him merely for the fifth. Previously, he had led the Saudi team at the opening ceremony flag bearer as the Olympic Stadium.

At the World Athletics Championships of the disabled in 2013 in Lyon, he finished sixth in the triple jump and fifth place in the long jump.
