Osborn Bergin

Osborn Joseph Bergin (* November 26, 1873 in Cork, † October 6, 1950 in Dublin) was an Irish linguist and one of the foremost scholars of. His research mainly dealt with the Irish language and the Old Irish literature.

Bergin studied Celtic studies, first at the Friedrich Wilhelm University (now Humboldt University ) of Berlin and later with Rudolf Thurneysen at the University of Freiburg, where he habilitated in 1906. He then returned to Ireland and taught at the School of Irish Learning and University College Dublin.
