Oscar and the Lady in Pink (novel)

Oscar and the Lady in Pink ( Original title: Oscar et la dame rose) is a narrative of the French writer Éric -Emmanuel Schmitt, published in 2002 as the third of four books in the series Cycle de l' Invisible. The German edition was published in 2003 in the Ammann Verlag, Zurich.

Content

The plot revolves around a ten year old boy, Oskar, who is terminally ill with cancer. Due to the chemotherapeutic treatment of his disease Oskar has lost all his hair and is therefore called by all " egghead ". He feels that there will be no cure for him and he only has a short time to live. Unlike his parents, of whom feel betrayed and abandoned Oskar, says the so-called Oskar lady in pink, a senior nurse with the boy about his illness and death. To cope with the terrible truth, she calls on Oscar, sharing his thoughts, feelings, fears and joys in letters to God. In addition, he should imagine that everyone still lived day meant ten years of his life. Although Oscar has trouble believing in God, he gets involved in the experiment and so experienced a lifetime. In 12 letters to God, he tells of his adolescence, first love, marriage, controversy, midlife crisis, age, and finally of the preparation for death.

Film and theater

The story was filmed by the author Schmitt himself in 2009. The Theatrium Bremen eV staged the story as a puppet theater.

Fabrice Bollon composed an opera of the same, which on January 5, 2014 at the Theater Freiburg had its world premiere.

Content (film )

The ten- year-old Oskar stays in a children's hospital because he is suffering from cancer. Neither the doctors nor his parents dare to tell him the truth about his illness. Only Rose, a grumpy looking lady who delivers pizza, talking as only one without ado with him. In order to bring him to other thoughts, Rose suggests he a game: Every day counts from now on for him for ten years. So it makes it a whole life within a few days. He confides in her more and more, thus encouraging him to write letters to God. In these letters, Oskar tells of his pain, sorrows, joys, his first love and the passing of time ... A unique friendship grows between Oskar and rose, without affording them aware of how her by both their lives are changed.
