Oscar Fredrik Church

The Oscar Fredrik's Church (Swedish Oscar Fredrik kyrka ) is a Lutheran church in the Swedish city of Gothenburg, and is part of the Church of Sweden (Svenska kyrkan ).

History

It was designed by Heligoland Zettervall and built from 1889 to 1893 in Neo-Gothic style. However, the architectural style is not based on the Norse churches, but rather to the great cathedrals of continental Europe. The church's name refers to King Oscar II, who visited the church standing in the district Olivedal 1898. As a location, the hill Dahlinska Berget was chosen.

The church was founded in 1915, 1940 and restored in 1974. The polygonal tower is 60 meters high. Inside, the nave and two aisles Oscar Fredrik Church dominates the color green.

The three-part altarpiece ( triptych ) was created by Ivar & Lars Lindecrantz, the painting comes from Erik Abrahamsson. Is shown in several subjects, the life of Jesus Christ.

The two rose windows date from 1893 and were painted by Reinhold Callmander ( 1840-1922 ). More windows were created in 1931 and 1938 by Albert Eldh ( 1878-1955 ). He is also responsible for the 1915 finished murals.

The wooden pulpit and baptismal font are from the time of construction of the church.
