Oscar Ghiglia

Oscar Ghiglia ( born August 13, 1938 in Livorno ) is an Italian guitarist.

Life

Oscar Ghiglia grew up in a family of artists, his grandfather is the painter Oscar Ghiglia. He completed his music studies at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory 's on in Rome. Was then informed by Andres Segovia, has greatly influenced him during his formative years and inspired.

He also founded the Guitar Department at the Aspen Music Festival (Colorado, USA) and at the Festival de Musique des Arcs (France) and is head of the Incontri Chitarristici di Gargnano (Italy).

He was a visiting professor in Cincinnati, San Francisco Conservatories, The Juilliard School Manhattan, the Hartt School and Northwestern University of Evanston, Illinois. From 1983 to 2004 Oscar Ghiglia was a professor of guitar at the Music Academy of Basel.

From his students a large number of first prize winners emerged at prestigious international guitar competitions. In addition to his activities as a soloist Oscar Ghiglia performed with prestigious musicians.

Oscar Ghiglia was a founding member of the International Classic Guitar Quartet.
