Osip Bodyansky

Ossip Maximowitsch Bodjanski (Russian Осип Максимович Бодянский, scientific transliteration Osip Maksimovič Bodjanskij; * 3 Novemberjul / November 15 1808greg in Warwa in Chernigov, Russian Empire, .. .. † 6 Septemberjul / September 18 1877greg in Moscow) was a Russian- Ukrainian Slavic, writer and historian.

Career

Bodjanski visited the son of a clergyman until 1831 the seminary in Perejaslav and studied at the University of Moscow, from which he graduated in 1834. He then worked as a secondary school teacher, later in the Slavic Department of Moscow University. In 1837 he was awarded with his dissertation "On the popular poetry of the Slavic tribes " of the master's degree. As a researcher, he traveled in the years 1837 to 1842 on behalf of the Russian government, the Slavic countries, the languages ​​, literature and ethnography to study them, and took over after his return in 1842 as Professor of the Department of history and Literature of the Slavic peoples at Moscow University.

In February 1844 Bodjanski Taras Shevchenko met and corresponded with him for several years; from the correspondence between two letters Bodjanskis and six of Shevchenko are obtained. He wore his work with a significant portion of the spread Shevchenko's poetry in the Slavic countries.

1877 Bodjanski died in Moscow.

Works

His main work was the publication of content-rich " Proceedings of the Moscow Society of Russian History and Antiquities " ( 1846-49 and 1858-78 ). From his own writings are "On the folk poetry of the Slavic tribes " (1837 ) and " About the time of the origin of Slavic Literature " (1855 ) highlight.
