Varva, Ukraine

Warwa (Ukrainian and Russian Варва ) is an urban-type settlement in the Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine and the center of the same name Rajons with 8,800 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005).

The settlement was first mentioned in writing in 1079 and belonged to the sphere of influence of Kievan Rus. After its destruction by the Mongols in 1239, it was then rebuilt and in 1356, a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from 1569 Poland - Lithuania. 1782 the area with Warwa became part of the Russian Empire and was incorporated into the province of Chernigov. From 1802 it was under the government of then Poltava. 1966 the place the statute of a urban-type settlement was then awarded since 1966 Warwa is the capital of Rajons same name.
