Korop

Korop (Ukrainian and Russian Короп ) is an urban-type settlement in the Chernihiv Oblast of Ukraine and the center of the Rajons same with 5600 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2005).

History

A fortress existed at the site of the settlement since the 11th century. The name Korop has been known since the late 16th century. The Ataman of the Cossacks Demyan Mnohohrischnyj was born in 1631 in Korop.
