The East motorway A4 is a motorway in Austria and part of the European Routes 58 and 60 It was opened in October 1994 and is the main connection from Vienna to the east of Vienna International Airport, Hungary and Slovakia.

Location

The A4 starts in Vienna Erdberg at the Stadium bridge, west of the Prater with the A23 and runs over airport Wien- Schwechat, Bruck an der Leitha and Neusiedl am See to the border crossing nickel village where she will continue on the Hungarian side as M1 to Budapest. Between Erdberg and the cable-stayed bridge of the Danube Canal runs between the two carriageways.

General

By 2006 saw the opening of the Vienna outer ring expressway between nodes S1 Schwechat and Vösendorf, which connects directly from the A4 to A2 and A21 heading south towards the west, the importance of the A4 has continued to grow. To account for the resulting increase in traffic, it was expanded in the area between the node and the Schwechat Flughafen Wien -Schwechat to three lanes in each carriageway. The opening of the expansion took place on 29 May 2007. Moreover, was released on 20 November 2007, the branching at node Bruckneudorf from the A4 towards Bratislava Northeast motorway A6 to traffic. Between 2013 and 2015, the six-lane extension of the A4 between the airport and fish amendment is planned.

In the federal highway law an extension of the bank of the Danube highway A22 from node Kaisermuehlen across the Danube to Kaiserebersdorf is planned, which should lead there in the form of a highway junction in the A4. Currently, this, however, no planning activities take place, there is no timetable for implementing this project.

The section from Vienna to the airport Vienna -Schwechat is colloquially referred to as airport highway.
