Life

Born in Daschkewytsch Ovruch around the year 1472. Early 20s he undertook the Lithuanian Army, where he later worked his way to the army commander. 1515 Daschkewytsch left for unknown reasons, the Lithuanian army, and came to Cherkassy, where he founded the Tscherkasischen Cossack collar. Many Cossacks joined him. In Cherkasy he defended the Ukrainian border against the Crimean Tatars. In the course of many years, he learned the refined methods of attack of the Tatars, who were very useful to him later.

He he joined the Crimean Khan Mehmed Giray to I., who had allied with the Polish-Lithuanian king in 1520 and moved with him to war against the Grand Duchy of Moscow.

In 1523 he was captured by the Tatars. A few months later he managed to escape. In the same year he was able to be active again. He reached successfully to the fortress of Ochakiv to free Ukrainian prisoners. In 1528, he again went to Ochakiv with Przecław Lanckoroński and was able to prevail against the Tartars again.

The most famous act of his life brought into being Daschkewytsch 1532. On the command of Saadet I Giray toward the Tartar army Cherkassy attacked. Daschkewytsch and his troop of 1,200 men defended the fortress of the city for several months. Although the Tatars were clearly in the majority, they could not capture the fortress.

1533 suggested Daschkewytsch the Polish- Lithuanian Grand Duke a solution for monitoring the southern border of the country before. He wanted to establish a strong fortress with 2,000 Cossacks in southern Ukraine. The ideal situation would have been the stone steps on the largest island in the Dnieper. The proposal of Daschkewytsch but was ignored.

1533 died Ostap Daschkewytsch. It was not until 1552 were his ideas of Dmytro Wyschnewetskyj be implemented.
