Ovruch

Ovruch (Ukrainian and Russian Овруч ) is a city in the Zhytomyr Oblast in Ukraine with about 17,000 inhabitants (extrapolation 1 January 2005), located at Noryn, a 88 km long tributary of the Usch in the historic area Polesia. The city is the administrative center of the 3225 km ² with the largest Rajon Oblast.

History

The city was first mentioned in 977 under the name Wrutschyj ( Вручий ) as a fortress of Drevlianians.
