Popilnia (UTS)

Popilnja (Ukrainian Попільня; Russian Попельня / Popelnja ) is an urban-type settlement in Ukraine with 6,000 inhabitants (2012 ).

Popilnja is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons in the southeast of Ukraine's Zhytomyr oblast 71 km southeast of the Oblastzentrum Zhytomyr.

History

The village was founded in the 1860s in connection with the construction of the railway route Kyiv -Odessa since 1938 has the status of an urban-type settlement.
