Osteitis fibrosa cystica

The osteitis fibrosa cystica generalisata (also: von Recklinghausen 's disease of the bone, but not to be confused with neurofibromatosis type I, von Recklinghausen ) arises as a result of overactivity of the parathyroid glands ( hyperparathyroidism ).

The increased parathyroid hormone concentration in the blood osteoclasts are stimulated that degrade bone. The excavated material is replaced by connective tissue ( Fibrosteoklasie ). With progression in the late stage can develop "brown tumors " that are typical of the osteitis fibrosa cystica generalisata. They are caused by bleeding into sites of connective tissue, bone and converted can be seen as a cyst-like structures in and on bones.

The osteitis fibrosa cystica generalisata is defined as a classical consequence of a persistent hyperparathyroidism and grouped in ICD -10 in the category E21.0 ( primary hyperparathyroidism ).
