Oswaldo Zambrana

Ronald Osvaldo Zambrana Enríquez (also Oswaldo, spelling the World Chess Federation FIDE, born 7 July 1981 in Sucre) is a Bolivian chess player.

Zambrana, who learned chess at the age of nine years, is the first and only chess player of Bolivia, who managed to become Grand Master. The first GM norm he reached in August 2004 in Santos, Brazil at the 4th International Maria Covas tournament. The second standard he reached in July 2005 at the 10th Ciudad de Balaguer tournament in Balaguer (Lleida ). The third norm for the Grandmaster title he reached in December 2005 at the Las Palmas Open in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Another standard he reached at the Chess Olympiad in Turin in 2006. However, he could get the title until January 2007 because he had not yet reached the necessary Elo rating of 2500. The title International Master he had received in February 2004.

For Bolivia, he took part in seven Chess Olympiads. At the Chess Olympiad 2000 in Istanbul, he received, though still untitled, the silver medal for his score of 7 out of 9 on the third board. In December 2006 he won the Memorial Raul Monroy Vizcarra in Santa Cruz with a score of 9 out of 9
