Otakar Vávra
Otakar Vavra ( born February 28, 1911 in Hradec Kralove; † 15 September 2011 in Prague) was a Czech film director, playwright and educator.
Life
As a student of architecture, it was already 1929/1930 involved in filming some documentaries. Over fifty years of his life devoted Vavra the Czech film. He first wrote screenplays before 1936 together with director Hugo Haas his first full-length talkie camel ( uchem Velbloud jehly ) through the eye turned. 1937 followed by the first film under their direction Philosophical History ( Filosofská history ). Historical movies with elaborate costumes were finally the focus of his work. A further genre to which he devoted himself, were lyrical stripes, full of deep feelings and passion.
Vavra was always trying to find for his movies famous actors, which corresponded to the historical figures. After 1945, Vavra lectured since 1963 as a professor at the FAMU in Prague.
