Otava (island)

Otava [ ɔtɑvɑ ] is an island in the Archipelago Sea off the southwest coast of Finland. It is located about six miles as the crow flies west of the city of Naantali, to which it belongs administratively. By 2008, Otava was divided between the municipalities and Merimasku Rymättylä. The parish village of Merimasku located at the north end, that of Rymättylä in the south of the island. Also, be on the Otava villages Hellemaa, Poikko, Kauppila, Maskulainen, Heinänen and Röölä.

With an area of 105 km ² Otava is the fifth largest island in the Finnish Baltic Sea waters and after Kimitoön the second largest in the archipelago. The most important neighboring islands are Luonnonmaa in the east and in the south Airismaa. To the west is an open sea area between the Otava and Velkua. In the north of the island is separated only by a narrow channel from the mainland. Otava is accessible by two bridges.
