Otomen

Otomen (Japaneseオトメン(乙 男) ) is a manga series of Japanese illustrator Aya Kanno, which appears in Japan since 2006 and has been implemented as a television series.

The title is a pun in Japanese otome (乙 女, " girl " ), in which the sign of woman by the man to be replaced and this English is read as men.

Content

The student Asuka Masamune (正宗 飞鸟) is tall, athletic and popular with the girls. It exercises judo, karate and kendo and is considered cool and masculine. But in reality he likes sweets, Shoujo Manga, everything Cute and cooks and knits like. When he was younger, his father left his mother because he wanted to be a woman ever want. His mother raised him after strict and did not tolerate more Asuka's inclination to everything Cute.

As Ryo Miyakozuka (都塚 りょう) new comes to the school, Asuka fell in love with it. Ryō lives with her father, a police officer and owner of his own dōjō. Opposite Asuka can not keep secret his true personality.

Publication

The manga was published from 2006 to 2012 in the magazine Hana to Yume Bessatsu the publisher Hakusensha. The individual chapters were published previously in 18 anthologies. An English translation appears in Viz Media in the U.S. and at Madman Entertainment in Australia and New Zealand. Akata / Delcourt brings out a French version and Tong Li published the manga in Taiwan. A German translation by Claudia Peter has been published since October 2010, when Carlsen Verlag in so far 14 volumes.

Adaptation

Directed by Masaki Tanimura 2009 was a drama based on the manga. The first eight episodes called Otomen - Natsu (オトメン(乙 男) ~夏~, " Otomen - Summer " ) were broadcast from August 1 to October 26, 2009 by Fuji TV in Japan, the next four episodes under the title Otomen - Aki (オトメン(乙 男) ~ ~秋, " Otomen - autumn" ) from 13 October to 3 November 2009.
